The First FDA Approved Full Field Digital Mammography Facility in New York and the United States

Medical Imaging of Manhattan was the first private practice in the United States and the first radiology facility in New York to install FDA-approved Full Field digital mammography.

During the months of June and July of 2000, we installed two GE Senographe 2000D systems.

Digital mammography produces state of the art breast images and allows for unique diagnostic capabilities through computerization rather than analog x-ray film. It offers many advantages over conventional mammography:

    •  The radiation dose is on average 20% lower
    •  The breast image is visible on the computer monitor within 10 seconds - the exam takes less than half the time of standard mammography
    •  The images are exquisitely clear, and especially better than conventional mammography near the skin surface
    •  The mammogram is viewed by the radiologist at two side-by-side extremely high resolution monitors, who can alter the window and contrast levels, magnify, and measure regions of interest
    •  The images will be printed on laser film - in the future they will be accessible to your physician through the internet
