For Breast Imaging PatientsWe'd like to introduce you to our facility, including equipment, staff, and procedures. All of our mammography equipment is extremely technologically advanced and has been certified by the American College of Radiology and approved by the New York State Department of Health. This includes mammography machines, darkroom facilities, and x-ray film products. The ultrasound machines are highly advanced and are particularly excellent in breast imaging. The x-ray and ultrasound technologists, who perform the technical part of your examination, are licensed by the State of New York and registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. They are all extremely skilled and experienced professionals, and we feel very fortunate to have them on our staff. Whether you are a new patient or an established one, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding your medical history. Please understand that if you have been here before, although we keep all of the information you have filled out in the past and refer to it, it is very important that you give us a current update to many of the same questions. This information is critical for the interpretation of your exam. The technologists will escort you, ask you to change your clothes (dressing rooms and lockers are available), and when ready will call you into the examination room where she will be performing either your mammogram or sonogram. In the case of the mammogram, you will be asked to wait in a small seating area while the films are developed and reviewed. After the initial films have been done, the technologist may call you back in the exam room in order to take additional views. Don't be alarmed. This usually means that one or more of the images needed improvement or clarification. Most often this is because some of your breast tissue was overlapping, but in order to see it better, the breast had to be positioned differently. Please remember that the vast majority of mammograms are normal. Once the technical part of the exam has been completed, you will consult with one of the radiologists. We will review your medical history, perform a physical exam, discuss the interpretation of your results, and make recommendations for follow-up. Be assured that although you may physically be seeing only one of the physicians, Dr. Levy, Dr. Tapper and Dr. Suprun frequently review exams together and consult with one another. After you visit here, your films will be re-reviewed, and a report will be dictated and faxed to your referring physician. The films that were taken will remain on file in our office as part of your permanent medical record. If you would like a set sent to your physician or to yourself, please let our secretarial staff know so that we can take care of that for you. If you have any special concerns or requests, please let us know them as soon as possible so that we can help you as best as we can. We will take all comments seriously and try to implement them whenever possible. |
